EPI-USE Labs User Group Conference

2 October 2017

The Royal College of Physicians, London

Thank you for joining us

Thank you to everyone who joined our successful User Group conference, held in London on Monday 2 October. Over 80 attendees, including existing and new clients, came together to learn, analyse, share experiences and enjoy the day. An annual event in the EPI-USE Labs’ calendar, this was the fourth consecutive conference, and feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

Industry leaders from EPI-USE Labs showcased the benefits of new developments and discussed industry trends. Guests heard first-hand the benefits of EPI-USE Labs’ solutions from companies who have worked with them.

“The aim of our User Group events is to inspire, foster collaboration and help users get the very best out of their SAP investment,” says Europe Regional Managing Director, Evan Jones. “In the morning, we presented updates about our solutions to our client’s challenges, and our strategy moving forward; the afternoon was an opportunity for clients to discuss specific case studies of SAP solutions and how they have worked with us, and share knowledge with others.”

Guest speaker Neil How from Informa said, “Events like this one broaden the company reach-out, and you can learn a lot from each of the industry sectors. It’s great to hear other people’s successes, and how they’ve used the product in a different way.”

One of the highlights this year included a session about Data privacy/security and GDPR (the General Data Protection Regulation) by UKISUG Director Brian Froom and Paul Hammersley, EPI-USE Labs’ Product Portfolio Owner for Landscape Solutions. Other topics include ‘Navigating the future SAP roadmap with S/4 HANA’, and ‘Delivering on Digital Business Change’.

Evan Jones adds: “We’ve evolved and grown over the last twenty years or so through customer input into our services and solutions, so events like this are valuable both for us and our clients.”

The conference was held at the historic Royal College of Physicians, an impressive venue near Regent’s Park in central London.

We look forward to next year’s event!

Paul Hammersley | Product Portfolio Owner for Landscape Solutions, EPI-USE Labs

Paul has for many years been a remarkable technical force at EPI-USE Labs. As Head of Landscape and Data Services, his portfolio includes System Landscape Optimization. Paul has specialised knowledge about Data Security and how the GDPR will impact companies running SAP.

Brian Froom | Director UKISUG & ACS SIG Chair

Brian has been involved in SAP in both an IT auditing and security capacity since 2005. He has over 21 years of experience as an IT auditor across different sectors. Brian is currently involved in the security and monitoring of Tata Steel’s SAP installations across UK and Europe. He has recently accepted a role on the SAP UK & Ireland SAP User Group board of directors, and is looking forward to the new challenges this brings.

Danielle Larocca | Product Portfolio Owner for HCM Solutions, EPI-USE Labs

Kevin is currently responsible for leading the EPI-USE Labs strategy for the Cloud and Managed Services portfolio with a specific emphasis on leveraging the EPI-USE Labs product suite as a solution differentiator.

Jamie Neilan | Professional Services Director, EPI-USE Labs

Jamie’s career started as a SAP Technical Consultant; he then went on to specialise in SAP data projects, BASIS, RunSAP, and Pre-Sales/Solution Architecture. He has 15 years of experience in IT with SAP (initially with SAP R2) covering programming, DBA work, web design and SAP technical work – mostly in the roles of Basis and Technical Lead on projects. His background includes a variety of SAP certifications, and he has broad experience on various platforms.

Michael Gleeson | Head of Shared Services Systems and Management Information, Amey

Michael has more than ten years of experience in numerous implementation roles and shared service set-up using various systems, predominantly SAP.

With 18 000 employees, and an additional 6000 in joint venture partners, Amey is a varied business with a complicated payroll and HR set-up. Michael’s team is responsible for all systems in the Service Centre including HRIS and data for the wider business.

Michael will explain how Query Manager has enabled business users to take control of reporting without the need for development work.

Ian Thomas | Management Information and Systems team, Amey

With over twelve years of experience in the SAP T&A-HR-Payroll modules, Ian was introduced to SAP in the 1990s with HR/Time & Attendance at Corus (British Steel), with full site implementation at their Shotton works, primarily with material BOMs and Vendors on S&D finishing. He returned to the SAP Payroll arena at Premier Foods (both BAU and implementation), and then moved to United Biscuits as an HRIS Analyst (Auto enrolment solution). Here he was introduced to Query Manager (QM) 3. In his current role at Amey, Ian has continued to use both Query Manager 3 and 4 for reporting in SAP HR Payroll and solutions.

Richard Cain | HR & OD Adviser (Systems), Dorset County Council

Richard has been working with SAP at Dorset County Council for eight years. He has been an enthusiastic advocate of Query Manager since starting to use QM3 in 2013. He has written over 250 HR and Payroll reports in QM3, learning some useful ABAP along the way. Having taken the lead in the Council’s move to QM4, he has written a large number of reports in the new version as well as setting up derived values, custom tables etc. for use by other staff. Changing to QM4 has opened up many possibilities, especially when dealing with multiple employments. It has also been a significant challenge, but Richard wouldn't go back to QM3 and has learned to love funny sounding formulae such as SUMIFBY.

Ian Naylor | SAP Solutions Manager Technical Consultant, RWE Systems UK

Ian joined RWE in 2006, having completed his degree in 2004 as a mature student. Moving from a supporting role for a bespoke billing system to SAP in 2011, he has since worked primarily with Solution Manager but also offers technical support for a number of other SAP systems. He has been with the company through various iterations, and is currently part of a newly formed SAP CC within Innogy Business Services. Ian’s hands-on approach to consultancy makes him popular with project managers and in-demand across a number of functions.

Neil Wilson | HR Functions Transformation, Barclays

Neil has 19 years of experience working with SAP HR software. At Barclays, he is currently responsible for Great Britain & Channel Islands payroll developments, co-ordinating global support packages and test environment data provisioning, using EPI-USE Labs’ Data Sync Manager.

Neil How | CEO, Limelight Solutions

Having delivered several major SAP implementations on time and often under budget, and becoming a key person of influence for anything ‘innovation related’ within SAP, Neil founded his own consultancy in 2015. His mission is to remove the stereotype that SAP projects are lengthy, costly and difficult. Through the creation of several accelerators, his company has delivered SAP programmes within six months, and been engaged with several high-profile brands to run their SAP roadmaps.

A firm believer that knowledge should be shared, Neil is in the process of writing a book on how ERP can change the world.

David Hall | Head of IT Development, Compass Group UK & Ireland

With over 25 years of experience in IT Consulting, David has implemented ERP systems in a number of different industries and countries, specialising in SAP. Over the past 20 years he has seen the Compass Group grow into the largest contract catering company in the world. Heading up the Development team in Compass UK & Ireland, David is responsible for application development and product support across a wide range of technologies.

Compass runs one the largest SAP payrolls in the UK, processing over 60,000 employees. They procured EPI-USE Labs’ Data Sync Manager for HCM and Variance Monitor last year. David will discuss how these solutions simplify the process of testing the HRSPs, facilitating investigating, and resolving payroll issues.

Warren Eiserman | Product Portfolio Owner for Digital Engagement, EPI-USE Labs

Warren is a Senior Vice President at EPI-USE Labs, with responsibility for our digital engagement and ISV partner program. He has over 20 years of experience as an SAP architect. Warren is passionate about customer experience and lives by the Value through Innovation mantra of Labs.
