SAP Connect 2026: Is your HCM and Payroll data ready for the Autonomous Enterprise?

SAP's message at SAP Connect in Las Vegas was clear: the Autonomous Enterprise has arrived. For HR and Payroll teams, the real question now is not what the AI can do, but whether the data underneath it can be trusted.

What SAP announced in Las Vegas

SAP used SAP Connect (October 5–7) to move the Autonomous Enterprise from vision to rollout. The idea is simple: AI that does not just answer questions, but completes work inside business processes.

Three pieces carry the story:

  • Joule Work is a new AI interface that lets employees work across SAP and third-party data in their own words. It is starting its customer rollout, and SAP says it is already live with 110,000 of its own employees, with 20% productivity gains across finance, HR and procurement.
  • Joule Assistants execute operational work inside business workflows, using existing data, authorizations and audit trails. SAP stressed that customers control the level of autonomy.
  • SAP Business AI Platform is where agents are built and governed. It leans on SAP Knowledge Graph, which maps more than 7 million data fields, to ground agents in business context.

SAP also showed customers such as Novartis, Nestlé and PwC using assistants for sourcing, collections and billing. For HR leaders, the headline use cases were closing workforce gaps and helping employees choose better benefits.

What it means for SAP SuccessFactors and HR

The biggest HR news landed on day two: SAP announced its intent to acquire TechWolf, a Ghent-based AI company. TechWolf's ‘context graph for work’ gives employers a continuously updated view of the work people do and the skills they have. SAP plans to make it the intelligent core of SuccessFactors, supporting skills mapping, workforce planning and organizational redesign (the deal is expected to close in Q4 2026, subject to regulatory approval).

It also builds on the Autonomous HCM vision SAP introduced at SAP Sapphire in May, which pairs Joule Assistants with SmartRecruiters, workforce planning and organizational modeling. At SAP Connect, SAP added that WalkMe Learning Arc will integrate with SuccessFactors Learning, with general availability planned for December 2026, and that SAP-managed public cloud ERP will integrate with SuccessFactors in Q4 2026.

The pattern is clear. SAP wants HR data, skills data and payroll execution to feed agents that act, not just reports that inform.

The catch: autonomy runs on data you can trust

Every announcement at SAP Connect shares an assumption. The agent must understand what your data means, and the data must be right. An assistant that picks the wrong field in a payroll cluster, or reads a stale employee record, does not just give a wrong answer. In an autonomous workflow, it acts on it.

This is so important, and needs more detail; I recommend you read the upcoming blog from our Chief Product Officer, Paul Snyman, on what SAP Connect means for your SAP journey.

I’m really excited about the work EPI-USE Labs is doing in this space. Introducing Semantik: an agentic data platform that optimizes and streamlines your SAP enterprise data across its entire lifecycle and across supporting environments.

Unveiled by EPI-USE Labs at SAP Sapphire 2026, Semantik packs decades of SAP expertise into a rich semantic layer. Whether you work through Joule or directly in the Semantik platform, you can put Semantik to work on tasks such as data assurance, data protection, data migration, test data provisioning, and decommissioning of legacy data.

SAP Connect made one thing clear: the Autonomous Enterprise is moving from roadmap to rollout, and the organizations that get value from it will be the ones whose HR, Payroll and Finance data is trusted, traceable and well understood. The AI will keep improving. The data underneath it is the part you can start work on today.

Every Semantik journey starts with Semantik Map now in private Beta, a read-only scan that shows where your data lives and where the gaps are, before anything changes  I’ll leave you with one last question, what are you doing in your SAP HCM systems to embrace the Autonomous Enterprise?
