G4S trusts EPI-USE Labs to carve out data from SAP systems

EPI-USE Labs securely carved out data for G4S divestiture

100% successful project delivery

Flexible and fast project timelines

Fixed cost solution

Who is G4S?

In 2021, G4S, a London-based global security company, was acquired by Allied Universal®, a leading security and facility services company. Allied Universal provides security services and smart technology to deliver tailored, integrated security solutions. The acquisition of G4S expanded Allied Universal’s footprint and infrastructure at a global and local level. With more than 800,000 employees and revenues of $18 billion, the company uses efficient processes and systems that come with scale to help deliver locally: keeping people safe so that communities can thrive.

G4S required specialist data carve-out of SAP ERP systems in two countries

In 2020, G4S sold the majority of its cash businesses to Brink’s Company, an American private security and protection company. As part of the agreement, G4S had to separate single SAP® ERP systems in the countries where both the cash and security businesses used the same SAP ERP system.

Once split, the carved-out SAP ERP systems were provided to Brink’s to run independently. The scope included two countries and each was done as a separate project.

The advantage of using EPI-USE Labs’ SLO solution is the agility and flexibility of the approach as opposed to a rigid structure of some of the other methods on the table.

Flexible solution to suit G4S’s landscape transformation needs

G4S chose EPI-USE Labs’ System Landscape Optimisation (SLO) solution to split the ERP system by company codes. The approach included leveraging Data Sync Manager™ for Landscape Transformation (DSM LT) to create an intelligent data selection. Several testing cycles ensured that the data selection was accurate and that the SAP system worked as expected.

The implementation process entailed:

The two projects had tight timelines and formed part of a bigger project with SAP and non-SAP elements. The first project ran from May to July and the second from November to February; both had an additional four weeks of hypercare provided by EPI-USE Labs. KPMG, the main partner working with G4S on the divestiture, recommended us to perform the SAP carve-outs.

"We initially chose EPI-USE Labs following a recommendation. Then we developed a huge amount of faith in them along the journey. I regard EPI-USE Labs as a company that absolutely delivers on the commitments it makes. It’s unusual in these types of interactions where there is a lot of complexity involved, especially when you think about older ERP systems and the integrations. To then move the data in a clean way, to deliver it on time, on cost; it's unusual to have that level of delivery! ”

Projects delivered on time and on budget

Splitting an SAP production environment can be complex. G4S was very happy with the outcome because the project was delivered on time and on budget.

There are a few different ways you can go about this kind of project and the thing I liked about EPI-USE Labs was that it was very pragmatic…they understood exactly what we were trying to achieve in terms of preparations, splits, moving the data, making sure it all balances, all the key pieces. It was the agility that EPI-USE Labs brings to the table - that is the significant advantage.
