Role: SAP Technical Consultant (Basis / Hybrid Technical Role)
Position overview
The SAP Technical Consultant is a hands-on, delivery-focused role requiring a highly experienced and proactive technical professional. This individual is a problem solver by nature, capable of working independently within agreed guidelines to design, implement, and deliver effective technical solutions.
This is not a purely SAP Basis role. The position is intentionally hybrid, combining traditional Basis responsibilities with deeper technical involvement in SAP repository objects, software logistics, data migration, and performance analysis. The consultant is expected to take ownership of tasks, identify improvements, and creatively solve problems without relying on step-by-step instruction.

- Proactively analyse technical issues, attempt resolution independently, and escalate only when appropriate
- Identify inefficiencies in existing processes or technical designs and propose improved or alternative solutions
- Deliver technical work to a high standard, balancing stability, performance, and long-term maintainability
SAP Basis Operations (Hands-On)
- Perform day-to-day SAP Basis activities, including:
- Transport management (import/export, sequencing, troubleshooting failures)

Hybrid / Repository & Development Support
- Work beyond traditional Basis boundaries to support SAP technical delivery:
- Understand the SAP Repository (R/3 Repository objects)
- Read, analyse, and troubleshoot ABAP code
- Use the ABAP debugger effectively to support functional and technical issue resolution
- Manually build and manage transports when required, including:
- Migration of customer-built repository objects
- Transport creation outside of standard development flows when necessary
- Support development and functional teams from a technical enablement perspective
Data Migration & Database Expertise
- Support and deliver data migration projects, with a strong understanding of:
- Migration strategies and technical considerations
- Data integrity, validation, and performance impact
- Possess strong database fundamentals, including:
- Deep hands-on knowledge of SAP HANA (column store) architecture
- Experience with row-store databases
- Understanding of indexing, execution plans, and DB-level performance behaviour
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues at both SAP and database levels
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot SQL statements related to SAP workloads
Performance & Infrastructure
- Analyse system performance issues across application, database, and infrastructure layers
- Understand the benefits, limitations, and operational implications of cloud infrastructure
- Apply this knowledge specifically to SAP RISE environments, including:
- Shared responsibility model
- Operational constraints vs on-premise SAP systems
- Impact on performance, troubleshooting, and customization
Experience and skills
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP Basis delivery experience in productive landscapes.
- Proven experience delivering Basis services across multiple SAP systems and environments.
- Direct exposure to SAP HANA–based systems and migration projects.
