Variance Monitor

What type of data comparisons are available?

Variance Monitor can be used for comparing Personnel Administration (PA), payroll, time, and payroll postings data, and enables comparisons between two SAP systems, SAP to legacy systems and period-to-period comparisons on the same SAP system. It is also possible to compare payroll-relevant infotype data in SAP with data from SuccessFactors, by using Query Manager and its OData Connector. Users can create comparisons on payroll results, time evaluation results, payroll postings to finance and employee master data.

When would Variance Monitor be used?

1) During projects for checking data consistency after configuration changes, Support Packs, upgrades, migrations, mergers, and acquisitions.

2) After ‘Go-Live’ for checking Production payroll from pay period to pay period to ensure salaries and statutory reporting are correct. 3) Simulation of payroll to find and fix variances before running a live payroll.

Can it compare SAP data with non-SAP or cloud systems?

Yes. Variance Monitor can compare data between two SAP systems/clients, with non-SAP HR/Payroll data from a file, and with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central data (using the Query Manager Adapter).

Can users define their own comparison logic?

Yes. Variance Monitor is flexible and easy to use, allowing users to define and create reusable comparison rules to spot variances. The user can set an amount or percentage tolerance for each comparison rule that controls which differences are highlighted.

Can users only compare finalised payroll results?

No. Variance Monitor enables the user to not only compare saved payroll results (from the clustered or de-clustered tables) but also to simulate payroll runs and use those results during a comparison.

Can users specify which wage types they want to compare?

Yes. A comparison can be configured with multiple rules, where specific wage types are checked under specific conditions, enabling the user to do a more targeted analysis.

Can Payroll Control Center (PCC) and Variance Monitor be used together?

Yes. PCC and Variance Monitor can both be used to improve data quality and speed up the payroll process. Read more in our blog post.
