SAP’s commitment to innovation in the cloud, and maintenance increase for On-Premise customers

Recent articles focus on SAP embracing the cloud and the importance of moving to it urgently. I recently read these two SAPinsider articles by Robert Holland – SAP’s Newest Innovations Will Be Cloud Only and SAP Increases Pressure for On-Premise Customers – and other online discussions that focus on SAP embracing the cloud and the importance of moving to it urgently.

 

I understand that there have been some interesting reactions to some of the latest announcements, but it is pretty fair to say that this has been SAP’s message for a long while now.

 

If you follow along with my tracking of the evolution of SAP and SAP SuccessFactors via my free Ultimate Guide: Journey from on-premise SAP HCM & Payroll to SAP SuccessFactors (HXM), you will notice that SAP SuccessFactors has been advocating for cloud adoption as far back as 2011.

 

The addition of extension or bridge offerings makes it easier for customers to transform digitally, and customers have at least five options available today, as outlined in this blog: What are your 2023 SAP SuccessFactors Payroll Options?

 

What I really liked about Robert's second article was his advice for customers, which I have included below. His advice is three-fold:

  1. Evaluate SAP systems and license usage
  2. Consider automation or decommissioning unused systems
  3. Explore moving to the cloud.
