The challenge: meeting deadlines and moving to ECP

The end-of-maintenance deadline for on-premises payroll and HCM solutions set for 2027 is approaching fast. Schiphol Airport decided to explore different options to migrate their on-premises SAP payroll to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP). Starting from scratch wasn’t an option, and Schiphol wanted the transition to be as quick as possible by reusing what they already had and focusing only on necessary changes.

Schiphol was aware of the multiple challenges involved in the process of moving to the cloud, including the significant resources required to manage their complex 500GB database, as well as their aim to have only one payroll system in place for the Netherlands.

Schiphol also saw migrating to ECP as an opportunity to gain more control over their payroll processes, which had previously been outsourced, and to provide their employees with a better payroll experience.

On-premises payroll will be phased out in 2027. We wanted to be future-proof and be able to offer more to our employees. We wanted to be more in control.

PRISM: A high-speed, low-risk route to SAP SuccessFactors’ ECP

EPI-USE Labs’ PRISM migration service was implemented to move Schiphol Airport’s payroll to Employee Central Payroll swiftly. The transition to a new SAP SuccessFactors instance, along with the implementation of Recruiting and Onboarding 2.0 within SuccessFactors, was carried out in strategic phases in collaboration with McCoy & Partners and Eviden.

EPI-USE Labs began the migration by establishing a solid foundation, making HR Operations, Core HR, and Payroll fully operational. The system was then expanded to integrate Core HR, Payroll, SAP SuccessFactors Recruitment and Onboarding, and Concur, unifying key HR processes. In the last stage, EPI-USE Labs’ expert consultants focused on optimising workflows and ensuring continuous improvement across Schiphol’s HR and Payroll operations.

Optimized HR and Payroll processes and improved employee experience

Schiphol migrated their payroll to the cloud in full. Thanks to EPI-USE Labs’ efficient PRISM solution, including proprietary software and experienced consultants, this transition required minimal effort from Schiphol.

With their payroll now running on SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll, Schiphol has gained greater control over their data and processes.

The move will also allow them to offer employees an improved experience by ensuring more efficient HR and Payroll processes, which was one of the initial goals Schiphol Airport aimed to accomplish with the migration.

It was a big project, so it was quite nice that the migration of the payroll was a lift and shift where we gave our old payroll to EPI-USE Labs and they did their magic.
