The journey of moving to S/4 is a business transformation and needs to be balanced with the amount of change and risk that you can adopt as an organization. When we were presented with the global merger of Lafarge and Holcim, we needed a solution where we carved out all of the data for the divested assets and stand up an isolated SAP solution for the divested company to operate. So it was a very large task to do a very aggressive project in three months. S/4 was a significant change from a business process perspective. So you really want to minimize your risk through such a huge project. With a lot of the different disparate systems and the reporting problems we were having, Purdue decided to move to S/4 and really rethink our business processes. During the three-month project, there were changes to the regulatory rules, and we found that partnering with EPI-USE allowed us to be flexible. Their tools were able to be configured to meet the changing demands and needs without impacting the timeline. Labs carved out the Aberdare company code from our previous shareholders' SAP solution. From there, they helped us with the upgrade, taking us from DB2 to HANA 2DB, and then to do the entire conversion to S/4. My experience with EPI-USE Labs is really about that larger partnership. We work together to come up with the right solution. A number of our staff didn't actually know we had migrated. It was so smooth. It was never too big of a challenge for the team. You've got technical resources all across the globe, which certainly on a tight timeline allowed us to run the clock a little longer, and it certainly provided the extra sets of hands that we needed in a very challenging time. They're definitely best of breed, and there's very few who can compete to them in this space. If an opportunity comes up and I don't really have a solution, I always think about EPI-USE Labs.
So we've got parts of the PRISM methodology that help before, during, and after the move to an S/4HANA system. Before you run it, we have an automated assessment, no set notes required. We just put a transport into somebody's environment, and it will go and find all about your data in the SAP environment today. And this will include what's customized; what's unusual configuration, but not customized; and we'll know what interfaces you have running, what code you have in that environment. And from this, we build a very quick picture of what kind of SAP transformation projects you might want to run. And so that's the first stage analysis. The second stage of our Prepare phase of the PRISM methodology is to look at a piloting of the S/4HANA system with your own data. And there's lots of different options for customers here. They can look at demo systems with fake data. They can look at SAP template systems with no real business data. But we give them an opportunity to take only the data related to a key company or area of the business and to put that data into an S/4HANA environment. This is faster than taking the whole environment at the first step, and more cost-effective. That's the Prepare and Sharpen phases of our PRISM methodology. During the migration, it's a methodology of using software to do SDT data migrations. So it means we can selectively bring what you need, and selectively move what you don't need into archive platforms or other locations. And we can also transform the data to meet a re-customized ERP system's requirements, but it also lets us build up the non-production environments for S/4HANA lean and secure. So the same software that's used to move data selectively and transform it can be used to subset that data for the target environments and build them with only the data required for your new S/4HANA DevOps strategy, and that can significantly lower the costs of running S/4HANA over the next few years. Finally, once you're at S/4HANA, the same technology of the approach could be used to quickly build the environments you need to then innovate on S/4HANA. And that's a part people often miss, which is that once you're there, the business will want you to innovate rapidly on the S/4HANA platform. And the same technology we use for the transformation is then embedded from day one to help build client systems and environments that IT and the business need to then go and innovate.
