Jun 15, 2018 1:40:43 AM

S/4HANA is the future for every business running SAP, whether this year or the next few years.

Moving to S/4 is a migration project unlike any other. If done correctly, your business should reap the rewards of a leap forward in both hardware and software technology. This checklist gives you an indication of what you should take care of before starting your SAP migration. Each step indicates how much closer it gets you to the finish line.

Converting to SAP S/4HANA: technical options

Jun 13, 2018 12:07:12 PM

What are your technical options as an existing SAP customer today running SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and looking to plan your path to S/4HANA?

SAP has sure come a long way since I first certified as a SAP Basis consultant in Waldorf in 1998, but I find that there is a lot of good – if sometimes confusing or outdated – information out there. For this article, I’m going to focus on laying out the conversion pathway to the latest on-premise version of S/4HANA version 1709 and the technical options available for you at an intermediate level of detail, and avoid the details around the different versions and the different deployment models of S/4HANA – with the caveat that this will eventually age out as well :)

Companies have a tremendous amount of choice as to where to deploy their SAP landscapes, including S/4HANA. Also, SAP landscapes don’t function in isolation anymore. You will almost certainly deploy systems at various places in the cloud. This has the drawback of additional integration and complexity, but the upside is that you can fine-tune and optimize your landscape to meet different business needs.

Customers who primarily deploy on-premise will have at least some parts of the landscape extended into the cloud.

5 New Year's resolutions for smart Basis teams

Jan 2, 2018 10:59:18 AM

Tick-tock tick-tock. Holiday vacation has come and gone, and there never seems to be enough time in a day. From holiday parties to shopping and time spent with friends and family, it’s a fun but crazy time. However, for Basis teams, an actual “vacation” is rare. While others spend time with their families, we spend time with our laptops to prepare the SAP systems for another year of improved performance, security and reliability. The Basis team are always overworked and underappreciated, but someone has to go through the sometimes tedious and complex process to make sure their company’s SAP data is safe.
